2019 Data Insights Internship Programme

 

Who we're looking for
We're looking for an analytical and insightful interns to join our Data Insights department on our 2019 Internship Programme.

 

We're interested in applying data science skills and technologies to investment research to help our fund managers and analysts make better data-driven decisions. After the initial training, you'll be comfortable supporting the wider Data Insights team helping extract information and deliver insights to our Fund Managers.

 

The department
Our 2019 Summer Internship Programme starts on Monday 24th June 2019 and runs for 8 weeks ending on Friday 16th August 2019. This Programme will provide you with a unique introduction into the investment management industry and our investment strategies. You'll be given introductory training and opportunities to network with people across the business.

 

During the internship you will be exposed to the work of the Data Insights Unit supporting the team of data scientists responsible for delivering insights to our internal clients, the Investors.

 

The work of the team revolves around the development and use of 'Data Assets' – data sets and tools that are ready and available to rapidly answer investment questions and test hypotheses. A vital part of this is using "alternative data" into our investment research. It's all about using big, unstructured or novel data sets that are not readily available through traditional channels.

The knowledge, skills and qualifications we're looking for

• Expected 2:1 honours degree or equivalent in a STEM discipline
• 128 UCAS Points at A-Level or equivalent (320 UCAS Points using the old Tariff system)
• Penultimate year of study or final year going on to study a Masters
• Programming skills, preferably in R, Python and/or SQL.
• Statistical skills, including at least multivariate linear regression.

 

Desired but not essential skills

• Machine Learning
• Big Data
• Time series modelling
• Information visualisation
• Relevant industry knowledge, such as econometrics or quant finance.

4. Assessment centre – Currently scheduled in week commencing 3rd December

 

Candidates should be available to start the 2019 Summer Internship Programme on Monday 24th June 2019. The programme ends on 16th August 2019.

 

Closing date for applications is approximately 2-3 weeks before the last assessment centres but we recruit on a rolling basis so recommend you apply early.
