Who we're looking for

Schroders' traineeship programme is your chance to gain a year of hands-on, paid work experience. If you've just finished your A-levels or your BTECs then this programme provides you with a chance to embark on a career in digital automation with a leading asset manager. We also accept applications from graduates.

Although you may have never heard of Schroders before visiting our website, this traineeship could be for you because the programme will teach you about what, why and how we do what we do.


On this programme, you'll be part of our Innovation Operations team within the Infrastructure part of our business. 


As a trainee, you will receive ongoing training designed to develop throughout the year, where you will have the chance to improve your skills as well as your technical knowledge. We support you to take the Investment Foundation Certificate which is a professional industry qualification and you'll be paid competitively above the London living wage.

You will join as an trainee as part of the Investment20/20 programme, you will have opportunities to meet and network with trainees across the industry and participate in training, socials and insight events.   


The base
We moved into our new HQ in the City of London in 2018. We're close to our clients in the heart of the UK's financial centre. We offer flexible working appropriate for a client solutions focussed role.


The team(s)

This is an exciting opportunity for a business-minded and technology-savvy individual to join a forward-thinking team within a market-leading asset management firm. The role sits within Schroders' Operations Innovation Group; The group is responsible for driving intelligent automation and innovation within Schroders. The group works with the Operations, Investment, Finance and Technology teams to identify, analyse, prioritise and deliver automated solutions to business teams. Once automated, the group is responsible for the ongoing support and optimisation of the digital workforce.


What you'll do 

The team works closely with teams across Schroders to deliver innovative technological solutions for the business.
Full training will be given.  

Your role will:
•    Examine existing business processes and consider how they may be re-engineered and automated
•    Gather and quickly understanding user requirements in order to put forward 
•    Develop, test and deliver technological solutions for business teams using industry-leading toolsets
•    Assist with the support and triage of existing solutions
•    Problem solving: investigate defects, suggest solutions to prevent recurrence and rectify bug-fixes


This is an exciting role for an individual who wishes to enter the exciting world of automation! The successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn how to develop and deliver automation solutions.


The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need 
•    Although we usually ask you to have achieved at least 96 UCAS points to be eligible for this role, we appreciate the need to be flexible given the on-going pandemic and disruption to your school/ college life. If you've achieved a little under 96 UCAS points in the academic year 20/21, we would still encourage you to apply 
You must be 18 years old by Monday 6th September to apply for the 2021 intake


The knowledge, experience and qualifications that will help
•    Passion for using technology for continuous improvement, quality and delivery
•    Awareness of technology skillsets (e.g. Python, Java, C#, Blue Prism, GIT, SQL/NoSQL), platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP) and low code platforms (e.g. Microsoft Power Automate).
•    Effective written, presentational and verbal skills
•    The ability to work to deadlines
