The base

The team
The Group Risk function includes the following teams:
• Operational Risk;
• Business Continuity and Resilience, Specialist Risk Oversight;
• Investment Risk, including Quantitative Methodologies and Risk Capital;
• Credit Risk;
• Insurance Risk.
The Group Operational Risk team is part of the second line of defence and provides oversight across Schroders. The team is responsible for providing the tools and framework for managing operational risk, and works closely with the first line of defence and other control functions.
In detail, the team;
• Defines the Group's operational risk framework, including policy and risk appetite;
• Develops and maintains the Group's operational risk system, Archer;
• Provides the methodology, support and oversight of the Risk and Control Assessments (RCAs) completed by the first line of defence, including those for new products, end to end processes, new clients, and business change;
• Provides oversight of the risk event process, including review and challenge of risk event investigations and mitigating actions;
• Manages the Significant Risk Events Forum where material operational risk events and lessons learned are discussed;
• Provides management information to key committees, including the Group Risk Committee, Board Audit and Risk Committee and entity Boards;
• Performs scenario analysis and estimation of the Group's operational risk capital requirement;
• Project manages the Internal Controls report (ISAE3402 / AAF 01/06); and
• Provides training and advice to business areas.
What you'll do
Main responsibilities may include:
• Management, review and challenge of risk assessments across the business such as risk and control assessments (RCAs), new client assessments and change assessments;
• Facilitating the investigation of risk events, including significant event escalations to Senior Management;
• Development of operational risk scenarios and estimation of the Group's operational risk capital requirement e.g. supporting the ICAAP/ICARA processes;
• Analysis and reporting of operational risk MI including RCAs, risk events and issues for senior committees such as the Group Risk Committee, Board Audit and Risk Committee and entity Boards;
• Enhancing the reporting processes, including efficiency and accuracy;
• Collating responses to RFPs and client queries, including the production of presentation materials for client meetings.
• Carry out presentations to clients on operational risk framework;
• Carry out thematic or targeted reviews where required;
• Oversight and management of the operational risk system and training of business users.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need
• Educated to degree level;
• Asset management and/or risk management experience;
• Proactive approach;
• Strong written communication skills and attention to detail: the ability to write accurate, clear risk reports appropriate for the relevant audience;
• Good organisational and time management skills;
• An aptitude to learn how to use a new system quickly and to be able to explain its functionality to others;
• Analytical with logic and problem solving skills;
• Good interpersonal and influencing skills and a team-player attitude;
• An ability to deal with sensitive issues;
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications that will help
• Assurance/ audit experience
• Asset management qualifications, e.g. IMC /CFA
• Operational risk system experience
• ICAAP/ICARA experience
