The Base

We are based at 7 Bryant Park in the heart of NYC. And we have everything we need to work flexibly. We operate a hybrid working model, with a requirement that our Assistant Portfolio Manager be in the office 3 days per week. This is to sustain our culture of innovation, collaboration, knowledge  sharing, and building relationships within the business


The Team

This is an opportunity to work interdependently with an engaged team that sits within a global Investment function at a global asset management firm. 


Position Overview

The Assistant Portfolio Manager provides administrative, analytical and ESG support to portfolio managers on the US High Yield team. The focus of this role is bond allocation and strategy - ensuring that investment strategies are accurately implemented in the portfolios. A successful Assistant Portfolio Manager should develop into a contributor to the portfolio strategy formulation process along with interacting with analysts and senior PM’s on security selection decisions. For the right candidate this provides the potential of a path towards a fund manager position.


Responsibilities

  • Support USHY portfolio team by providing general assistance in all aspects of the portfolio management cycle including daily tasks as well as long term projects
  • Monitor portfolios’ position weights and risk analytics compared to benchmarks and targets. Highlight deviations and create orders to rebalance portfolios
  • Bring special consideration to ESG factors and monitoring in addition to focusing on sustainability-linked strategies
  • Monitor portfolio positions and trade orders for compliance with client guidelines
  • Monitor and manage portfolio duration
  • Manage portfolio cash balances and ensure cash balances are consistent with product guidelines and current investment strategy
  • Coordinate with the trading desk on trading programs & monitor trade executions
  • Review and resolve compliance breaches
  • Monitor and coordinate corporate actions on behalf of the funds managed on the desk
  • Take part in & develop action plan based in issuer and industry meetings with credit research team
  • Work with Product team to provide portfolio and investment related information to clients in the form of presentations, written commentaries and responses to ad hoc requests
  • Establish and maintain relationships with other departments internally, including Compliance, Sales, Marketing, and Investment
  • Cultivate strong relationships with colleagues across the Global Credit and Fixed Income platforms


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2-5 years’ experience in investment management
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Personable and team-oriented
  • Proficient in MS Office, Bloomberg


Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in Aladdin
  • CFA holder or candidate
  • Coding experience Python, R, VBA


Compensation 

Schroders offers a base salary in a range of $90,000 to $125,000 for this position.

The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
